Lifesaving causes supported by new Council Chairman

Two lifesaving organisations which have potential to touch the homes of every one in North Kesteven have been chosen as the charities supported by the District Council’s new chairman.

Councillor Ray Cucksey has decided to support the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and the LIVES First Responders organisation, both of which administer essential emergency and life-saving support; “It has been very difficult to decide on just two charities from the many worthy causes which support the lives of District residents, but after long consideration I have chosen these which both provide a vitally important service and rely solely on charitable donations to carry out their essential work. To this end I hope to raise both funds and awareness for both organisations.”

Cllr Cartwright said he had relished the opportunity of meeting so many groups, organisations and volunteers who made a significant contribution to the life and vibrancy of North Kesteven and also to visit so many businesses.

Heckington swimming pool set for the summer

Preparations are underway to get Heckington’s open-air swimming pool ready for the summer season.  The pool, which is managed and run entirely by volunteers, will be open from May to September. As well as enabling the adjacent primary school to provide swimming lessons to all pupils from Reception to Year 6, the pool will also be offering parent and toddler sessions, public swimming sessions and private hire throughout the season. The management are hoping to improve the facilities to include disabled access within the next two years, which will allow less able and elderly people to use the pool more easily.

The pool relies very heavily on fundraising and the committee is kept very busy all year round organising and running events to make sure that the much-loved community facility stays open.

The next fundraising event is a Race Night on Saturday 14th April. This will take place in Heckington Village Hall. Entry is £1 and there will be prizes for the winning owners. A bar will be open, along with a food stall for hotdogs and snacks. For tickets, contact Gill (01529 461243) or Diane/Michael (07810 154164).
